A simple box has been constructed to separate shoe sales from back of the house storage and office functions. A dropped gypsum board plane is suspended from the roof structure which makes the scale of the space more intimate while hiding the necessary mechanical and service equipment. The shoes are framed by eggplant colored millwork and float on translucent shelving that is lit from above. Window shopping is encouraged by the creation of an exaggerated depth at the existing windows which allows for displays and dramatic lighting to entice the passerby.
